Personal Leadership Philosophy - Part 1

Hello everyone,

Before I talk to you about my leadership philosophy, I would like to share with you my choice of three leaders who are an inspiration and admiration in my life for their values, beliefs, and behavior during their personal or professional lives.

1. Jesus of Nazareth

Jesus was a man with natural leadership who knew and faithfully believed in his mission and his purpose in life. With a great ability to influence people through example and teaching.

Jesus preached and taught love towards God and others as the supreme value. He believed that if one learned to live in love one would be able to treat others with compassion, empathy and kindness. Moreover, he stressed in different teachings the importance of being humble by encouraging people to serve instead of obsessively seeking power or self-recognition. He taught by example, such as when he washed his disciples' feet as an act of humility and service.

In addition, Jesus showed great empathy in connecting with people. In some scriptures, we can find Jesus attending to various situations that required the communicative capacity and tact that he possessed. On several occasions, Jesus demonstrated his empathy and sensitivity by connecting with people on the margins, healing the sick, and allowing people to let go of guilt.

For example, after his encounter with lepers and people of dubious reputation, those who were called sinners and other people who lived on the margins of society could feel loved and respected for the action of mercy that Jesus showed them.

Jesus also promoted forgiveness and reconciliation, teaching his followers to forgive those who hurt them and to seek peace and harmony in human relationships.

His teachings and leadership based on love, service, humility and compassion have transcended time and have inspired many leaders throughout history.

2. Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa of Calcutta had a life admired by leaders of all regions, creeds, and contexts, from which many businessmen have taken lessons. When she was 16 years old, she decided to become a nun and joined the Sisters of Loreto in Rathfarnham, Ireland. Then she founded the Congregation of the Missionaries of Charity, where its members dedicated themselves to the care of the sick, the poor and orphaned children.

Mother Teresa was a leader by nature who exercised a servant leadership with which she dedicated herself to helping people in need and was committed to the development of others through listening and collaboration.

In addition, she demonstrated her ability to be empathetic by providing comfort and care to the most marginalized and forgotten people in society. She was also a person with strong beliefs, dedicated and resilient based on her faith. She believed in the intrinsic value of each person, regardless of their situation or circumstances, highlighting the value of each individual who deserved to be loved and cared for without distinction.

In 1979, she received the Nobel Peace Prize "for the work done in the fight to overcome poverty and misery, which also constitutes a threat to peace." She did not attend the ceremonial banquet but asked that the $192,000 fund be given to the poor. This act of detachment allows us to highlight his humility and love for those most in need.

3. Yvan Marquezado

Yvan Marquezado was my Provincial Division Manager and has been a leadership model for me for several reasons. First, for his discipline and perseverance. The fact that he is a disciplined person in his personal and professional life and that he has shown consistency in his development and growth in different areas of banking shows a commitment and determination that inspire me greatly. His ability to stay focused and persevere in his goals serve as an example of how to achieve success through effort and dedication.

Something that I really appreciate about Yvan is his ability to listen and his empathy. Yvan is a leader who cares about the needs of others and demonstrates his ability to understand and connect with his team. This ability to empathize and understand others is essential to establish solid relationships and foster a collaborative work environment which helps me personally to develop more efficient and productive teamwork.

Additionally, I admire Yvan's ability to plan and execute strategies effectively. That is his skill to set clear goals and take concrete actions to achieve those goals. His focus on planning and execution shows achievement and success-oriented mindset.

Finally, during the time that I worked under Yvan's direction, I was able to see that he maintained a balance and emotional intelligence that allowed him to make rational decisions based on fairness, integrity, and learning. I believe this ability to manage his emotions and make informed and equitable decisions is very valuable in a leader since he was able to generate trust and respect in his team. I feel very lucky and grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Yvan.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this post. I thank you for accompanying me through this path of learning and growth.
